My Top 20 Favorite Monster Movies (part 2)

Art by me - http://kaijusaurus387.deviantart.com/art/Tetsuo-the-Iron-Man-630594032
Well last time we talked about smog monsters, STDs, and parasites and this time we're talking about more of my favorite creepy critters!

Links to videos in the image captions.

Video
Tokyo Gore Police
While my tastes in raunchy, Japanese gore-fest is limited in all honesty when it comes to films; I like anime and manga like that just fine, but somehow when it's in film it makes me pretty queasy. However, Tokyo Gore Police is a very, very big exception (not to say this movie isn't extremely nauseating at times).

The idea of a disease that causes people's wounds to grow weapons and some pretty unexplainable mutations is just such a great concept to me. I guarantee that if when I cut my hand off it would turn into a crab-claw/eel mouth hybrid, I would chop it RIGHT NOW!

Just to let you know, this movie is NOT for everyone's tastes. These are some of the most disgusting visuals I've ever seen. I've yet to see a movie with anything worse than that damn, chair.

Video
Ghoulies
Ghoulies is a movie that is very close to my heart. I watched the second Ghoulies when I was around 7-8 with my dad on cable and it had an extremely lasting effect on me; not only horrifying me, but it also left serious mark on my taste in horror and fiction in general. Ghoulies is the entire reason I love the whole "small monster" thing and absurd horror stories.

If you at all like Horror Comedy, B Movies, So Bad It's Good, or 80's Horror, this movie is the holy grail of your life. The movie isn't really sold as a Horror Comedy, but it does come across as one.The pure schlockiness though is really part of the charm and what makes it great.

Video
Odd Thomas
People seeing ghosts to solve mysteries is nothing new by any means. Neither are ghosts that help solve mysteries. Odd Thomas, however, is by far the best supernatural mystery I've ever seen. It's also full of great acting which is something missing from MOST of the movies on this list.

Video
The Creature from the Black Lagoon
Before you read this paragraph, watch that video. Doesn't that gorgeous critter just look alive? Honestly, I would choose these special effects over any CGI dinosaur or Satan any day. You really get something a lot more from a person inside of a creature-suit, it just feel so much alive; probably because it is.

There's also something to be said about the movie itself; it's sheer quality is outstanding for the time it was made (1954); the story is well crafted and seems believable enough, the filming and direction is great, the writing is great, and the acting is very good and natural. It's honestly hard to believe this movie was made in the time it was, with all the schlock and cheese that was pushed out of the media in fear of nuclear radiation and space aliens; don't get me wrong, I love those movies, but they really do get kind of old.

Video
Godzilla vs Megaguirus
This is the first Godzilla movie I ever saw, but I love it for so many more reasons than that. This movie really stand out from the other Godzilla movies (a lot like Godzilla vs Hedorah) story and tone-wise. There's times when this movie seems like it wants to be a horror movie and even references the movie Alien; which a lot of the movie seems like it's a homage to).

Also, I think Megaguirus is one of my favorite monsters shown in the Godzilla Franchise so far. Her design reminds me of Battra a lot (another favorite) and she's one of the very few Dragon-fly kaiju I think of. Plus she queen of the Meganula, a monster previously from the film Rodan!

My Top 20 Favorite Monster Movies (part 1)

How it feels to chew 5 Gum

I have really neglected this blog for a very long time. And I'm really working on getting back to writing on it again more. Things like school and just life in general have made it very hard to do or have the time for. So what a better way to get back into the swing of things than talking about my one of my biggest passions in life: MOVIES!!!

I'm a pretty big movie junkie, always have been, always will be. The only thing I love more than a movie is a horror movie, and the only thing I love more than a horror movie is a monster movie! I gobble up up monster movies like school girls gobble up tentacles (I'm sorry). I've been hooked on monsters for as long as I can possibly remember and think I'll always have that slobbering, snaggle toothed, skinless monkey on my back.

So I thought that going over my top 20 favorite monsters movies would a good way to get back into blogging again.

Godzilla vs the Smog Monster

A.K.A. Godzilla vs Hedorah; this is just one of those Godzilla movies. It's kinda of a love it or hate it Godzilla movie, but I think anyone who's a fan of surreal and bizarre films would enjoy it. It has an early late 60's/early 70 psychedelic vibe to parts of it), cheesy children's Godzilla vibes, straight up David Lynch-like vibes that bring to mind things like Twin Peaks, and even times when it seems like it wants to be taken as a pure horror film!

While this got A LOT of mixed reviews, I always felt it had a lot going for it. Maybe I'm just biased toward bizarre and surreal films but I really would recommend this movie if you haven't seen it already.

It Follows

Oh boy. If you haven't seen this one yet, because you should have, you're really missing out. I honestly think a lot of people didn't see this one simply for the fact that people said that it was about a "Sexually Transmitted Demon," a.k.a. STD, but I'll have you know they never once call it a demon in the film, and calling it that kind of ruins the fun if you ask me: it's simply It.

Sure, it was a movie about a monster that you pass on to the last person you had sex with, but why does that automatically make it a demon? Is it the whole Succubus/Incubus thing?

Trick r' Treat

I have only just recently seen this movie for the first time and I have to say that it's one of the best anthology movies I've ever seen; I would go as far as saying this movie blew V/H/S/2 right out of the graveyard. One of the reasons this Horror Anthology stands out among others such as The Twilight Zone and even the V/H/S franchise is because all four of these stories take place in one town, at the same time, and all tie together in a very nice way. Plus it has Sam.

This movie has does have it's fair share of cliches thrown in but it uses them well and clearly is using them to it's advantages. It does hold up far better than most movies that take place during Halloween, even including the movie Halloween (what ever, I feel like it's a pretty boring movie and it's over hyped, I liked the 3rd film far better).

Return of the Living Dead

As someone who really isn't into zombies that much, it's a pretty big statement for me to say that this is one of my favorite movies. If you wanna know why I don't like zombies, just go read this article on Bogleech.com because I feel the same exact way and couldn't put it better myself.

Return is just one of those movies that's impossible not to love. Not only does it have one of the most memorable zombies ever put into film, it's also the ORIGINS of brain eating zombies!

The Hidden

Who likes alien movies from the 1980's? I know I sure do. The Hidden though, truly does live up to it's name as it seems to be hidden from the B-Movie fandom for some strange reason. This movie is criminally unknown and deserves so much more praise!

The movie follows an FBI agent named Lloyd Gallagher (played by Kyle McLaughlin) who's pursuing a dangerous killer who just so happens to be a parasitic space slug who loves 1980's heavy music and fast cars. I can tell you're just scrambling to see this undiscovered gem right after you read that. It is available for rental on Xfinity for only$ 3.99 and it's completely worth it for that cheap!

That raps up part 1! Next time we go over another 5 movies!

Concept Art from 5 Great Movies

I'm a total geek when it comes to concept art, I fuck'n love it! I love looking at it, it one of the reasons I've watched the special features on the Special Edition King Kong (2005) so many times, because it show so much of it. The image above is actually from that movie!

And if you like concept art, then you need to read this article because I'll be show concept art from 5 different movies! All of which are monster movies!

#5. Return of the Living Dead

I only have one photo for this movie, and it's amazing. Is is one of my favorite movies, and my second favorite zombie movie. Is is some beautiful art, I really like the Tar Man and First Corpse, they really are incredible. The Half Corpse is pretty badass too. Jaws also is badass, but you know what, they are!

#4: Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla (1993)
Okay this has some of the greatest concept art you'll ever see. It's the first one that I can have a group of pictures too. I personally think that the concept art is way cooler cooler than the stuff in the movie, especially the Mecha Godzilla stuff. The one above I'm really not a huge fan of, but these ones below are awesome, and I think that they should have gone with the red one below.

 #3: Alien
I'm sure we've all seen this already, but I thought I include it anyway. There is some weird shit in this. H. R. Giger imagined these monster very different, and much, much more weird.

#2: Critters

I thought this was pretty cool. I've never seen this concept art, and it's pretty cool. The one above is most likely the final design. There's a bunch more of these pictured below.

#1: The Mist

Well this is one of my favorite movies, and it's got some of the best concept art ever. It's some of my favorite. And it's one of the movies where the concept art is way cooler cooler than the monster that are used in the movie. These flys are some of the coolest too, and the Behemoth.

Well that's it, I'll try and get a couple more articles in by Halloween. Thanks for read...

Top 5 Halloween Songs

Well, I love music, I listen to it more than anything I do, well other than ride my bike and draw, in fact I'm listening to it right now! And I love when music really get's a response from you, and when I can scare you, you know it's good! Today we'll talk about music good for Halloween, so if you're throwing a Halloween party this year, read this damn article.

#5: Sympathy For the Devil
What's better for Halloween than music about the Devil? A song by The Rolling Stones (I really shouldn't have to tell you that, but some people are dumb) off the album Beggar's Banquet. From the point of of view of the Devil, it's a great song.
If you don't know this song, which I doubt, you need to listen to it, because you've most likely been living under a rock you're whole life.

This song is number 5 because it's not that scary, well it won't get a scared reaction from you anyways.

#4: Halloween
A song that's really about Halloween, from one of my bands no less, MASTODON BITCHES!!! Sorry about that, couldn't control myself. This song comes from there newest album Once More 'Round the Sun. This is one of my favorite Mastodon songs, and just songs in general, but the reason it only made number 4 is becaus because, like Sympathy, It's really not scary, but it doesn't really have to be to be in this list.

This song is great, if you haven't heard yet, go listen to it.

#3: Hell's Bells
This time an AC/DC song, from the album Back In Black. Great song, probably my favorite song without Bonn Scott. Not scary, but is Halloween Friendly, and if you have to ask why, read the damn title.

Not a lot to say about this song other than it's good, and, uh... it's AC/DC.

#2: Highway To Hell
Another AC/DC song, and probably the most well known AC/DC song. Every one knows this song, and again, if you don't you most likely live under the rock next the one where the guy who doesn't know Sympathy lives. This song almost deserves number one, but I really couldn't bring myself to do it.

Other than that, it's the last album with Bonn Scott, sharing the same name as the song. Great song, listen to it this Halloween, you won't be sorry.

Before we go onto number 1, here are some honorable mentions

1. Mr. Crowley - Ozzy Osbourne

2.  War Pigs - Black Sabbath

3. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - Black Sabbath

4. What's Next's to the Moon - AC/DC

5. The Creeping Death - Metallica

6. Hand of Doom - Black Sabbath

7. Back in Black - AC/DC

8. Behind the Wall of Sleep - Black Sabbath

And now get ready to shit your pants, get ready to amazed and dazzled, get ready for....

#1: Black Sabbath Peel Sessions

The final cut of the song would have been great enough, but the Peel Sessions version is so much better than the released version. With an extra verse, 3 more minutes, and an even crustier sound.

This whole Peel Sessions album is scary and great, but this song really makes you feel uncomfortable, it's eerie, even more evil, and of course scary as fuck!

So that's it, five difference scary Halloweeny,  songs to listen to this Halloween. Tell me if you think this list is missing anything you think should be on it, or maybe something that shouldn't be on it, give me your opinion.

Some More Lesser Known Monsters

Well I guess we're doing another one of these then. I really didn't plan on doing another, but I was forced to by my own monster loving mind. So lets get going we got some pretty cool monsters this time. Also, if I give any small typos, I apologies, my keys are super sticky.

Arizona Crawlers
Well because we have no picture, I'm gonna have to give description. And the reason I have no picture, is because none exist. The Arizona Crawlers are a group of creatures, possibly a race. They are all different it seems, The first one seen has white skin, and huge black eyes, then there's one that has deep, nearly black skin. The next one was a smile that stretches from ear to ear, and to many limbs, it describes them as nearly insect-like. Now there are a couple more, but I really don't remember what they look like. They come fro the creepypasta called Arizona, go read it or listen to Mr. Creepypasta read it. Also, for the record, I don't even know if that's there real  name.

The Being
The Being is from the 1983 film of the same name. Now, I've never seen this movie, but I've read about it, and it sounds awesome. But never mind the movie, we're talking about the monster itself right now. The monster is born from radiation, and kills lots of people. The Being is massive, has a huge head, one single eye on it's head, and massive mouth full of large teeth. The monster is killed at the end of the film by being hacked up with an ax. But as I've read,  a new monster reaches from the ground at end of the movie. This monster is badass if you ask me, his design, his movie sounds amazing, and did I mention that his tongue can be used as a tentacle?

The Trash Pack

The Trash Pack are a toy line of silly, disgusting and some times even disturbing monsters. The one pictured to the left is Flesh Eating Virus, and isn't just adorable. Now, this guy is supposed to a germ, but that's a human hand in it's mouth. So is he microscopic, or fucking huge! All of these monsters seem to be like this, but of course they aren't all germs, some are animals that are dead and disgusting, some are even parasites. They are a beautiful group aren't they. You can check out some more Herehere, and here.

The Townsfolk of Ashley, Kansas

This isn't an official image.
The Townsfolk of Ashley, Kansas are a group of resurrected people from the town Ashley, Kansas. They come from the Creepypasta The Disappearance of Ashley Kansas. They don't appear till the end of the pasta, after a series of unexplained events. They are also unexplained, it really doesn't say what they are, just that they came from the woods on fire, and that they are all people that died or disappeared in the town. This happens to be one of my favorite Pastas ever, and these guys are some of my favorite Creeps.

Iguana
The Iguana comes from the film Caveman starring Ringo Star. This guy has a great design if you ask me, and he's brought to life through  beautiful Stop Motion. He's at the beginning of the film and near the end. I really haven't seen this movie for a long time, and don't remember much of it, just that it's amazing and retarded at the same time.

That's it for now, there might be another one of these articles, not sure, but probably.
