Creature Showcase: Army of Darkness

If you've never Army of Darkness, then you're really missing out. This is one of the greatest movies ever made, not the best in the Evil Dead series, but it's a great movie. It's got quite a few monsters in it, such as, an entire army of living skeletons, a zombie ash, ect., ect. Let us get started!

Bad Ash
Probably the most iconic character in the film other than "Goody little two shoes", but to me, he's not the coolest. Bad Ash actually made his first appearance in Evil Dead II, when Ash is looking in the mirror and his reflection comes to life.

But Bad Ash plays a much larger part in this movie. He is basically an avatar of the Evil Forces in this movie, and the leader of the...

 Army of Darkness
The Army of Darkness, an army of living skeletons, is the title antagonist of Army of Darkness. They are also called the Deadites, which has since been used to describe all the possessed people in the Evil Dead series.

They're pretty badass in the movie, and at the same time they seem like they are somewhat mentally retarded, but what can you expect, they're dead.

Flying Deadite
The Flying Deadite is one of the coolest monsters in the movie, other than the skeletons and the Pit Witch.  It's a shame she ( yes it's a she, look at the picture it has boobs) only gets about two minutes of screen time, because they really could have done a lot with this character. Like they could have had a bunch of these guys (or gals) invade the castle with the Army of Darkness. This monster was used with a suit and stop motion model.

Personally I think they should have used the Stop Motion Puppet more than the suit. I do really like suits when it comes to monsters, but the I really like the Stop Motion in the movie, and this monster would have been great with more of it.

Pit Witch
The Pit Witch is one of the coolest monsters in the whole Evil Dead Franchise, and in my opinion, one of the scariest. She's really just scary in appearance, and nothing else. Another monster I really wish we could see more of. It really wouldn't make any sense it see more of her, but we do! Not in the movie, but in the comic book "Ash vs The Army of Darkness.", not for very long, but we do see her again.

Fun fact: The Pit Witch was played by the same guy who play The Stay Puff't Marshmallow Man!

The Other Pit Lady
I really didn't know what to call this chick, she's never really given a name, so she's... The Other Pit Lady. This is the first monster we see in The Pit, and the first monster to kick Ash's ass in the movie, but of course not the last. She's pretty frick'n scary too, but again, only in appearance.

She is more like the Deadites from Evil Dead II, which is cool, I really like the designs of the Deadites in that movie. I really don't have much to say about this one though.

Tiny Ashes
The Tiny Ashes are really one of the best parts in the movie. They're created by Ash smashing the mirror into a bunch of little pieces, and all of his little reflections coming to life. One of these little guys even become Evil Ash! Because Ash swallows one and it grows inside of him... Yay! I'm not gonna ruin this seen for you if you haven't seen the movie, so I'm just gonna stop here, because if you have seen the movie, you remember this scene.

The Necronomicon
"Clatu Verata Niisfwefrzisfgerzz..."

Well I'm not sure if this thing counts as a monster really, but I'm gonna go ahead and say it is. The Necronomicon is probably the most iconic book in horror history. And why wouldn't it be, it's an awesome book bound in human flesh and written in human blood, AWESOME!!!

But the Necronomicon in this movie is my least favorite of all it's designs. My favorite design is from Evil Dead II, and my second is from The Evil Dead, and then the one from the new movie, and then this one. I don't know why, but I really don't like this design, maybe it the face, it really doesn't like a real face like the first two do.

Well that's it. I hope everybody enjoyed this article, I know it's been awhile, almost twenty days. But I hope I encouraged some people who haven't seen this movie to go see it. But till next time, this is Mordle Warrior, saying good bye...
